Nelle prossime righe vi riportiamo le testimonianze di due studentesse di Como che hanno svolto presso la nostra Associazione un periodo di alternanza scuola-lavoro.

Esperienze di arricchimento professionale e culturale...ma non solo.

"L’alternanza scuola-lavoro è stata resa obbligatoria anche nei licei per avvicinarne gli studenti al mondo del lavoro, essendo un tipo di scuola tradizionalmente molto legata allo studio ma ben poco aperta all’ambiente lavorativo dove poi da adulti si passa quasi tutta la vita.

È stata quindi una riforma molto positiva anche se spesso, all’atto pratico, si sono presentati parecchi disguidi organizzativi e in molti casi gli studenti si sono trovati a svolgere attività non relative alle proprie competenze e al proprio percorso di studi.

Nel mio caso, fortunatamente, non è stato così.

Per due anni, insieme a una mia compagna di scuola, ho svolto l’alternanza presso la Casa della Poesia di Como, un’associazione che si occupa di promuovere la poesia attraverso iniziative culturali come il festival “Europa in Versi”, che chiama nella città poeti di provenienza internazionale e coinvolge anche le scuole.

Il nostro compito è stato di tradurre dall’inglese e dal francese le opere di diversi autori provenienti dalla Turchia, dall’Ucraina, dal Regno Unito, dall’America e perfino dalla Nuova Zelanda. Si è trattato di un’esperienza proficua sotto molti punti di vista.

Essendo studenti di liceo linguistico, è stato molto utile per ampliare le nostre conoscenze delle lingue che studiamo, perché traducendo poesie è necessario riportare non semplicemente il significato letterale delle parole, come avviene per la prosa, ma anche quello che l’autore intende trasmettere attraverso un determinato vocabolo o espressione. Bisogna quindi essere in grado di trovare, nella lingua in cui si sta riportando il testo, delle parole che possano al meglio esprimere quello che comunica il testo originale, senza corromperne l’essenza. È una competenza che non avevo mai sperimentato prima e che sono convinta mi tonerà molto utile in futuro, visto che mi piacerebbe intraprendere una carriera da interprete o mediatrice.

Inoltre, è stato un grande arricchimento culturale. Poiché a scuola si dà molta importanza allo studio della letteratura, tendiamo ad avere un’idea non del tutto vera della poesia: la vediamo cioè come qualcosa di lontano da noi, talmente lontana che pensiamo sia incomprensibile o addirittura inutile. Spesso pensando a essa ci vengono in mente le grandi opere degli autori distanti nel tempo come Dante, Petrarca, Foscolo o Leopardi. Ma questi sono i pilastri della poesia, che è anche altro. Malauguratamente non ce ne rendiamo conto, ma al giorno d’oggi esistono numerosissimi autori molto validi capaci di trattare temi che ci stanno a cuore e con i quali abbiamo a che fare quotidianamente. La poesia è un mezzo di espressione vivo e meraviglioso in grado di colpire al cuore il lettore e spingerlo a porsi domande sulle quali altrimenti non avrebbe mai riflettuto. Probabilmente non mi sarei accorta di ciò se non avessi avuto questa possibilità, e non sarei venuta a conoscenza dell’opera di poeti che mi hanno molto appassionato. Spesso traducendo sentivo il testo “mio”, come se mi parlasse.

Purtroppo però la maggior parte delle persone non dà alla poesia il valore che essa possiede. Spero che la pubblicazione delle opere che abbiamo tradotto in questi giorni possa servire come mezzo divulgativo per diffondere maggiormente un’idea della poesia vicina alla sua vera natura."

"From the 13th to the 23rd of June I had the possibility to live my work-related learning experience in the House of Poetry of Como. I worked 6 hours a day (from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) for 10 days.

The House of Poetry of Como is a cultural association which was founded in 2010 with the purpose of promoting and spreading the passion and the love for poetry.

This association pays specific attention to the XX century’s poetry and to the contemporary poetry, which are spread through several activities such as debates and meetings with the most important representatives of Italian and international poetry and literature, poetry readings, poetry slam, writing workshops and so on.

The president of the House of Poetry is Laura Garavaglia, but there are a lot of other people who constantly work to help the organisation and the diffusion of events.

Unfortunately, I did my apprenticeship experience during a period when all the activities organised by this association were gone, but in spite of that, my work-related learning experience has been very useful and beautiful. My task was that to translate poems written by contemporary poets from the English and the French language into the Italian one. Thanks to this experience, I had the chance and the privilege to read, translate and analyse a lot of very beautiful and touching poems written by very good poets I didn’t even know they existed.

I think this experience has been very useful and enriching because I did not have just to translate poems, but also to interpret them and to analyse the emotions and the images they evoked in my heart and in my mind, trying to describe them using words or some images found on the net. This work helped me to understand the poems’ most important topics and also the peculiarities of each poet’s poetry. Each poem I have translated has struck me deeply and I have always been amazed by all the poets’ ability to write such beautiful poems using extremely thoughtful and forceful words which immediately are able to strike the reader and to make him aware of the importance of the topics the poet talks about. In fact, the most striking thing is that each poet has a personal and specific way of writing poems. For example, there are poets (especially female poets) who use very few but powerful and significant words and poets who write long lines and poems (especially young male poets).

Furthermore, I had the chance to know a new way of making poetry: the slam poetry, a form of competitive performance poetry in which participants perform their poems not just by reading them, but also by acting them with the use of music and gestures. The participants are then judged by randomly picked audience members. In my opinion, it’s a very original, captivating and touching way of making poetry, because it involves the spectators more and I think it can be an useful way to raise the awareness among young people about the importance and the beauty of poetry.

In conclusion, I think that this experience has been one of the best enriching and useful experiences I have ever lived in my life, because it helped me from many points of view: it allowed me to improve my English, to be more sensitive to poetic texts, to understand and analyse them better and faster than before, to become more open-minded and to understand myself better."
